The pizza making course was brilliant! Great way to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Fabrizio and Juliette are an amazing husband and wife team who took us on an incredible journey through the Tuscan countryside. One view was more beautiful than the next. The pace was very comfortable on amazing electric bikes. We stopped at the home of a local win maker maker and he treated us to five different kinds of wine that he served with every beautiful Italian food you could imagine from fresh cheeses to meat and a wonderful espresso at the end. Just beautiful! We had the best day! Fabrizio and Juliette made sure of that. I called ahead to make reservations, and was immediately pleasantly surprised by Juliette’s enthusiasm and warmth. The e-bikes were fully prepped upon arrival (two adults and two eight year old) and Fabrizio patiently explained how they worked to the kids. He also shared a great Family friendly route on Google Maps via WhatsApp, so we could follow directions via the phone holder on the steer. Just perfect! BIKE TOUR DETAILS
The bike tour will start at 10:00 am at the Biking Tuscany Tour bike store in Peccioli near Volterra and San Gimignano. After a brief explanation on e-bike use, we will begin our bike tour along the Tuscan landscapes. The Biking Tuscany Tour will follow typical Tuscan landscapes to take wonderful photos of vineyards, olive groves and beautiful bike paths.
The trip will follow typical Tuscan bicycle routes enjoying the Tuscan hills around Peccioli near Volterra and San Gimignano and beautiful landscapes. This tour is a true discovery of Peccioli’s so-called “The Green Triangle,” Legoli and Ghizzano. A way to ride while confronting the world of recycling, art and restoration of the area. An urban redevelopment work that will give you an incredible experience where bikes will ride along the perimeter of a waste and disposal plant just outside the hamlet of Legoli and a few kilometers from Benozzo Gozzoli’s frescoes.
It is an essential and rigorous architectural structure with a particular connotation that marries part of the “geometric” brand of the owner company, Belvedere Spa, the “triangle” in fact, combined with the color that characterizes it and that best suits the environment that welcomes it.
From being a meeting place hosting events, cultural activities and training courses, it has increasingly become a terrace from which to see the result of the fusion of daily actions related to the common sense and realism of an industrial plant such as Belvedere.
You will encounter the art installation “Presences” by Naturaliter. The Presences are gigantic human figures, statues symbolizing destruction and rebirth, 5 to 9 meters high made of expanded polystyrene and polystyrene, covered in weather-resistant fiber cement. The giants evoke rebirth to new life, in this area where destruction par excellence is expressed in waste and occurs daily. Free guided tours of the waste treatment and disposal plant and/or the “giants” area are available. There are 4 statues: two are here, one at the Fonte Mazzola Amphitheater (where the bike tour began) and one on the roof of a building that is part of the industrial area of Peccioli.
Evocative place to discover by bicycle, incredible the size of the site, the absence of odors, the beauty of the giants, Sergio Staino’s ten images, “All’altezza delle Margherite,” (ten images reproduced on polycarbonate panels) that decorated the exterior walls that protect the Mechanical Biological Treatment plant from the wind.
Finally, an amphitheater, made of tufa slabs anchored to the ground in such a way as to exclude the use of concrete, completes the striking scenic space, a venue for cultural events and concerts en plein air.
The bike tour continues to reach the beautiful hamlet of Ghizzano where British artist “David Tremlett” in 2017 brought his colors and geometric shapes of “wall drawing” not only on the retaining walls and silos at the highest part of the recycling plant area but also on the facades of the houses in this beautiful hamlet of Ghizzano.
